Mountain Living - January 2014
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to All!
I sincerely hope everyone had a joyous Christmas and a safe and prosperous beginning to 2014. We are cold in the mountains of western North Carolina. As I write this the temperature is 19 degrees, which will probably be the high today. Tonight the forecast is for the temperature to plummet to -1 degrees. Let’s hope the cold weather has caused our bears to seek hibernation.
We continue to try to stay out front of the snow and ice by having our road contractor, A&A Contractors, salt and sand the roads prior to the arrival of inclement weather and scrape when necessary. However, nothing can substitute for good judgment when planning to drive on the roads in ice and snow.
I believe it is safe to say that the conversion of our community water system over to municipally supplied water by Junaluska Sanitary District is finally complete. JSD had some issues with adjusting the pressure valves throughout the community and this caused some cloudiness and air in the water, but it appears all is now normal. Should you have any problems with water quality, contact JSD at 452-1178. JSD also installed 4 new fire hydrants in the community which should further assist firefighting equipment should it be necessary.
The Board continues to monitor the Montrose Lane slide issue and will take the necessary and appropriate action to secure the safety of the roadbed.
Just a reminder that 2014 assessments were mailed out in December, 2013 and are due by February 1, 2014. Contact our Treasurer, Sam Bell, through the website should you have any questions regarding the assessments.
That’s all for now. Hope everyone stays safe, sound, and warm this winter.
Mac
