Mountain Living - July 2015
Lots of Independence Day Activities!
Independence Day in Junaluska Highlands brought a mix of sun and clouds and the threat of afternoon thunderstorms. Thus, our annual July 4th picnic and social was moved from our usual venue at the pavilion over to the beautiful home of Bob & Bonnie Manga. A crowd of almost 40 homeowners, lot owners, family and friends gathered to enjoy good fellowship, food, and patriotic remembrances about our nation’s rich history and heritage. We all had an opportunity to reflect upon our most memorable Independence Day event and joined in the singing of America the Beautiful. We had an opportunity to meet our newest neighbors and share their life journeys that brought them to Junaluska Highlands.
The first week in July also brought a number of patriotic events to Lake Junaluska. July 2 brought the award winning and home grown blue grass group, Balsam Range, to a crowd of over 1800 people to Stuart Auditorium. The next two evenings were filled with uplifting and patriotic songs by the Junaluska Singers and the annual Independence Day fireworks display at the Lake. Earlier in the day of the 4th the annual Lake Junaluska Parade took place around the Lake followed by a barbeque at the outdoor Weldon event center. If you have never experienced the Independence Day celebrations at Lake Junaluska you have missed out on a treat and should definitely mark your calendars and plan to visit next year’s events.
As I mentioned last month, two homes are under construction in Junaluska Highlands and site preparations are underway for a third home to begin next year. I continue to receive calls from real estate professionals and prospective buyers about life in our community and my constant reply is “this is a great place in which to live, centrally located and very much a hidden gem in Haywood County.”
That’s all for now. I hope everyone enjoys the summer in the mountains of western North Carolina.
