Mountain Living - June 2015
New construction in the neighborhood!
June has ushered in a flurry of activity in Junaluska Highlands. Last month plans were approved by the ARC and construction is now underway on the 28th home in our community. This month, the ARC approved plans for another home and construction is slated to begin soon on the 29th home in Junaluska Highlands. Additionally, two adjacent lots were re-sold and plans are now being formulated with a construction start anticipated early next year. With this home start we will be more than 50% built out in the development – a healthy sign that the housing economy is rapidly improving, at least in Junaluska Highlands.
June is also a wonderful time for the gardeners in our community as tomato, squash, bean, and other vegetable plants are rapidly growing from the recent rains we have received. Until such time as these vegetables yield their bounties, please remember the two farmers markets we have in Waynesville – the Haywood County Historic Farmers Market which is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the parking lot of the HART theater and the Waynesville Tailgate Market which is also open Wednesdays and Saturdays in the parking lot of the American Legion on Legion Drive, behind Bogarts’restaurant. Both markets are currently offering local meats, cheeses, eggs, honey, lettuce, new potatoes, onions, flowers and bedding plants. Help support our Haywood county farmers by visiting these markets for fresh produce and other items.
Also, remember that the beautiful roses along the Rose Walk at Lake Junaluska are now in full bloom, along with many other native annuals and perennials throughout the campus. Additionally, more than 500 native plant species can be seen in the Corneille Bryan Native garden, adjacent to the Lake. These locations are just another benefit we enjoy in living in this most special place in the mountains of western North Carolina.
That’s all for now. Enjoy your summer in the mountains.
Mac
