Mountain Living - July 2014
The July 4th Picnic was a smashing success!
Our annual July 4th Picnic was a smashing success with over 40 residents, lot owners, family and friends in attendance. Unlike the previous two years celebrations that were held in my garage due to inclement weather, the 2014 picnic was blessed with simply outstanding mountain weather. We welcomed three new families into the Junaluska Highlands community and everyone enjoyed the good food and fellowship of the afternoon. Our thanks to our Social Chairperson, Kathy Bell, for planning and organizing this event.
Work began this month on the Montrose Lane slope side remediation. Our contractor and engineer began the process of stabilizing the fill bank side of the slide area to insure the integrity of the road bed and prevent further damage. It is anticipated the repairs with take between 30 and 60 days, depending on how the weather cooperates. More about this project will be presented at our Annual Meeting in October.
Speaking of our Annual Meeting, it has been scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 2:00pm at the Bethea Welcome Center on the campus of the Lake Junaluska Assembly. This is the same weekend as the Haywood County Apple Festival in downtown Waynesville, one of the most well attended events in the county. Also, if past history is any indication, the fall colors should be in full swing on that weekend. More information will be mailed out in September regarding this meeting and the issues to be discussed.
Finally, for those who are not familiar with or have never attended the Folkmoot USA Festival, it begins on Friday, July 18 and runs through July 27. This is the 31st annual State International Festival of North Carolina and is a celebration of the world’s many cultures through music and dance from nine world cultures and 300 performers. Further information is available from the website www.folkmootusa.org.
That’s all for now. Hope everyone has a great summer.
